Advanced Practice Providers Special Interest Group

Given the ongoing workforce shortage, Advanced Practice Providers (Physician Assistants/Associates, PA-C, and Nurse Practitioners, ARNP) are playing a greater role in helping to alleviate the healthcare stressors. APP contributions to healthcare is not limited to the US but rather, the increasing contributions are global. There is a wealth of experience and wisdom from Advanced Practice providers in all fields of medicine, including radiology. Membership in AAR would be an ideal opportunity to share experiences, knowledge and to provide continued educational growth for APPs in the field of radiology. As the premier national organization connecting radiology departments, programs, educators, and trainees, the AAR is the ideal radiological society to sponsor support of an APP community. We propose that the AAR create an APP SIG that would focus on radiology education, mentorship, and service to promote a multidisciplinary team-based approach to patient care.

Mission:
To enhance collaboration of APPs in the radiology including but not limited to patient care, education, research and leadership.

Vision:
A network of members sharing ideas and resources across institutions, to enhance the experience of its members by promoting community amongst the members; communicating opportunities for involvement in education, mentorship, and service; and encouraging members to be ambassadors of the AAR.

Structure:
The goals will be accomplished through a variety of formats, including virtual meetings and events, live activities at the AAR annual meeting, establishment of website resources, and social media communications.

APP Leadership:
The APP SIG will be led by a Chair who will provide broad direction and oversight. There will also be co-leaders for specific areas of interest, including:

  1. Forums for Connections and Community;
  2. Communications; and
  3. Opportunities for ProfessionalContributions

Value:

We believe that the APP SIG will benefit AAR by

  1. expanding its inclusion of Advanced Practice Providers to the field of radiology;
  2. enabling AAR to tap into the experience, expertise and contributions of APPs;
  3. heightening AAR member engagement and connections; and
  4. advancing AAR membership recruitment by serving to inspire, connect with, and mentor the growing APP contribution to our healthcare system
