Call for Applications: Academic Radiology Editor in Chief

The Association of Academic Radiology is accepting applications for the position of Editor in Chief of the journal Academic Radiology, the official journal of the AAR, SCARD and APDR.

Dr. Reed Dunnick has served in this capacity with great distinction for many years but has announced his intention to step down as Editor in Chief June 30, 2025. 

Academic Radiology, for three decades, has served as the voice of the academic radiology community. The journal publishes original scientific research reports, as well as articles and commentaries related to teaching, research and administrative topics. The Academic Radiology Editor in Chief is responsible for: 

  • Setting the strategic direction and specific goals of the journal
  • Formulating and interpreting editorial philosophy and policies, including setting high standards for academic integrity 
  • Overall editorial management and development of the Journal, including timely and efficient coordination of submissions and ensuring an appropriate and sufficient level of submissions to meet the publication goals of the Journal. 
  • Appoint deputy editors which collectively constitute an Editorial Board to provide direction, assist with article recruitment, and assist in the management of journal content and appoint an Editorial Executive Committee as a subcommittee of the Editorial Board for additional direction and guidance. Appointments subject to approval of the AAR. 
  • Chair meetings of the Editorial Board and Executive Committee and manage communications.
  • Serve as an ex-officio voting member of the AAR Board of Directors and submit written reports for those meetings.
  • Travel to required meetings (typically RSNA; AAR and annual Editors Forum) 
  • Coordinating with the AAR Board of Directors, AAR Executive Director, and the journal’s publisher, Elsevier, in the production of a self-supporting, high-quality publication with a strong impact factor
